Chisholm Community Supports Schools; Approves Referendum Questions
Chisholm, MN (November 9, 2022) - Chisholm Public Schools will see big changes in the next couple of years, most notably with the construction of a new E-6 elementary school connected to the high school.
The unofficial results are:
Question 1: Operating Referendum Renewal to fund programs and services for students.
1,585–Yes
667–No
Question 2: Bond Referendum for a new E-6 elementary school connected to the high school, major long-term maintenance needs at the high school (high school athletics and activities spaces and infrastructure), and close two existing elementary schools.
1,218–Yes
1,033–No
“The referendum questions approved by voters in the Nov. 8 election will make a big difference in the learning environment for our students,” noted Chisholm Public School Superintendent Adrian Norman. “We thank all voters who made their voices heard, and we thank all of you for supporting our students, families, and our hard-working staff for believing in the continued success of our thriving community.”
What These Approvals Mean
In addition to the E-6 elementary school, the referendum approvals will continue support programs for students and staff, as well as to create efficiencies for the district:
Common Ground: Children’s Future
Chisholm School Board Chair, Robert Rahja believes that now that the election is over, a new chapter in the future for students can begin. “We understand that not everyone voted yes on these questions. We also believe there is common ground in supporting the needs of our children, and we will build on that common ground to ensure that we all move forward together.”
Next steps:
The community will be informed at every step of the process with regular updates from the school district.

In addition to the E-6 elementary school, the referendum approvals will continue support programs for students and staff, as well as to create efficiencies for the district:
- The operating levy will continue student support, mental health, technology support, and curriculum coordinators that were funded with one-time COVID Relief/ESSER Funding. Without the renewal, the Chisholm Public Schools would have lost $200,000 per year in funding.
- The bond referendum will fund facility improvements, including:
- A new elementary school,
- Addressing major long-term maintenance needs at the high school, and
- Closing our existing elementary schools.

Next steps:
- Winter-Spring 2023: Engage staff, parents and other stakeholders in the design process
- Summer 2023: Bid process
- Fall 2023: Construction begins
- September 2025: Move-In/Occupancy
